Kindergarten

Welcome to St. Joseph's all day Kindergarten class. Our kindergarten classroom is activity centred. The children learn to do by doing. Activities are concrete rather than abstract. The children are participants rather than spectators. The curriculum is integrated and themes are the vehicles for delivering the curriculum. By relating a number of activities to a central theme I present opportunities for development in an integrated manner.

Grade 1

Welcome to Grade One! The transition from Kindergarten to Grade One is an important and exciting step in learning for children. Children enter Grade One with a wide range of abilities, so the year ahead will be filled with many new learning experiences that will provide your child with opportunities to grow spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially at his or her own pace. The major focus in Grade One is to develop your child's reading and spelling skills. As parents, you can contribute to your child's progress by ensuring that you read with them each night. In other academic areas such as Math, your child will learn to represent numbers to 20, add and subtract to 20, measure and much more. In Science, your child will conduct experiments and develop skills to accurately record observations. Your child will develop a greater understanding of our faith and grow closer to God by participating in school Masses, prayers and, by completing activities in their Christ Our Life book. All the activities planned this year will encourage your child to work towards becoming a confident and independent learner.

Grade 7

Welcome to Grade Seven! This year represents the culmination of your child's elementary school experience and we are committed to making it a joyful and productive learning experience for all of the students. It is an extremely busy year, from both curricular and extra-curricular aspects and we have made a strong beginning on our journey.
In order for children to achieve their potential, they must feel comfortable and supported. A child who feels stress in the classroom is not likely to learn. We will endeavour to create a clasroom community which is characterized by mutual respect among its members and in which everyone is given what they need, thereby being treated fairly. We hope to provide a safe environment in which the children can experience intellectual, spiritual, emotional and social growth.
