Pick Up and Drop Off
Parents are asked to co-operate with traffic supervisors at all times. Children should be picked up promptly after school unless they are involved in a scheduled activity. No child should be left at school after 3:00 p.m. as supervision is provided only up to that time. After 3:00 p.m. children will be brought into the school. A supervisor will sign them 'in' and they can be signed 'out' by the person picking them up. This is a safety measure and must not be abused. We do not have an after school care program.
The school aims to support parents as the primary educators of their children and therefore tries to keep the lines of communication open on their child's progress with respects to school activities and programs, current education concerns and Religious activities. We also invite parents to attend our school liturgies which are prepared by the children under the direction of their class teacher.
Expectations for Parents
- To ensure that their children are at school on time each day.
- To insist that their children conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times.
- To respond promptly and affirmatively to any misbehaviour while maintaining good manners at all times.
- To encourage responsibility in their children for lunch, books, materials and homework assignments.
- To encourage high effort at achieving and prompt completion of assignments.
- To support the school, the principal and the entire staff in their efforts to build high standards of education in the school.
- To supply the child with a written and signed explanation for any absences, lateness, or lack of proper uniform including the gym strip and runners.
- When there is a problem to try and maintain a calm attitude when presenting the matter to the school.
Parent Participation
Parent Participation is a condition of enrollment for St. Joseph’s School. The program fosters a spirit of community among families working to create a better school. All families are required to perform approximately 50 hours of work participation each year or pay the non-participation fee of $500.00.
The school will not have sufficient tasks to use all of its parents in the school. Therefore, some parents may choose to fulfill their commitment in St. Joseph’s Parish. Participation tasks in St. Joseph’s Parish may include but are not limited to membership in Parish groups or choirs, cleaning the church, helping with the PREP or Baptism programs, parking attendants, helping in the Parish office, Project Advance, maintenance of the church and gardening.
