About St. Joseph's School

Spirituality

St. Joseph's School provides religious and moral reference points to help students critically examine the culture around them and build a society enlightened by the values of the Gospel. Christ is the foundation of the whole educational enterprise in a Catholic School. His teaching and life inform the school's identity and characteristics. The following core elements of Catholic faith provide a framework for Catholic Education: teaching the whole person, faith lived in Christian community, and commitment to justice and compassion.

Widespread Commitment

There is a widespread commitment to making the school a safe, welcoming, learning environment and an important part of the parish community.

Personal Development

It is important in this school community for God's children to be able to develop a personal relationship with Him...We accomplish this through occasions of prayer, Monday assemblies, liturgical (Advent & Lenten) celebrations, Eucharistic celebrations, mission activities, as well as our instructional program (Loyola Press).

Active Parental Involvement

It is important in this school community that God's children learn to live the moral values taught by Jesus Christ...We accomplish this through our emphasis on the instructional program that we provide. We invite parents to participate in a number of learning opportunities, but particularly in programs relating to the sacraments, family life, and child sexual abuse prevention (I'm a Gift from God). Additionally our students are given opportunities to learn about the Church's teachings regarding social justice through activities such as Share Lent, HCA, Fair Trade, Children's Hospital, The Atonement Sisters, and Remembrance Day.

Commitment to our Community

It is important in this school community that God's children acquire the attitudes, skills, and knowledge necessary to be fulfilled, responsible, and contributing members of the community. In addition to all of the above, we accomplish this through our recycling program as well as volunteering to clean-up our neighbourhood for the City of Vancouver.
